5. FRFULL: IMAGES OF PATENT DRAWINGS NOW AVAILABLE
FRFULL (FRench Patents FULLtext database) covering the full-text of patent
applications published in France has been enhanced.
Clipped images, mostly front-page images, are now offered, when available.
The enhanced file contains about 430,000 records and more than 175,000 images
since 1980.
The Database Summary Sheet is available in STNGUIDE and at:
http://www.stn-international.de/stndatabases/databases/frfull.html
6. MARPAT - DISPLAYS ENHANCED WITH EXPANDED G-GROUP DEFINITIONS AND TEXT LABELS
Two MARPAT enhancements have made displays easier to understand:
- The default display formats for G-group definitions now contain expanded
terminology.
- Text labels are now spelled out, so knowledge of abbreviations is no longer
necessary.
Example of a previous MARPAT display:
G1 = H / OH
G2 = H / OH / alkyl<(1-10)> (SO OH) / alkoxy<(1-10)> /(EX OMe)
MPL: claim 1
Example of a new MARPAT display with G-group definitions and text labels:
G1 = H / OH
G2 = H / OH / alkyl <containing 1-10 C> (opt. substd. by OH)/
alkoxy containing 1-10 C> / (Example: OMe)
Patent location: claim 1
Note: The expanded G-group definitions may contain standard CAS abbreviations.
The list of abbreviations is available at:
http://www.cas.org/support/stngen/doc/stndabbrevs.html
The shorter format for the G-group definitions can still be displayed using the SET GTEXT OFF command.
The Database Summary Sheet is available in STNGUIDE and at:
http://www.stn-international.de/stndatabases/databases/marpat.html
7. RUSSIAPAT - RUSSIAN PATENT ABSTRACTS NEW TO STN
A new patent database, RUSSIAPAT (Russian Patent Abstracts), is available now on STN.
RUSSIAPAT produced by the Russian Agency for Patents and Trademarks
(ROSPATENT), Federal Institute of Industrial Property (FIPS), provides access to
Russian patent information in English language.
RUSSIAPAT covers Russian patented inventions from 1994 to date. Records
contain inventor and assignee data, patent and application information, and
International Patent Classification codes. Titles and abstracts are in English
and are intellectually created, names are transliterated.
All drawings available from the full document are included, i.e. the drawing from the first page, drawings from the drawing attachment, and embedded drawings from the complete text.
Simultaneous left and right truncation is available in the basic index (/BI)
field, the display field GINF (Graphic Information) provides an indication of
the number and size of all available drawings.
The file presently contains about 300,000 records and 240,000 images.
It will be updated three times a month, automatic current-awareness searches
(SDIs) run on every update.
The Database Summary Sheet is available in STNGUIDE and at:
http://www.stn-international.de/stndatabases/databases/russiapat.html

10. SSL VPN - SECURE CONNECTION TO STN VIA SSL USING STN EPRESS WITH DISCOVER!
FIZ Karlsruhe has installed an SSL VPN solution which enables STN customers to establish a secure and encrypted connection to STN using STN Express with Discover!. This solution is based on a dedicated SSL VPN server at FIZ Karlsruhe which uses an HTTPS tunnel (port 443) with SSL encryption. You only have to take a few precautions to so that a JAVA SecureApplet can be loaded on your PC each time before you connect to STN. This JAVA SecureApplet uses SSL functionality and therefore guarantees a secure and encrypted communication with FIZ Karlsruhe during the active STN session.
After a successful test-phase of several months, this SSL VPN Solution went into production phase on July 1st, 2005.
Advantages of this SSL VPN solution:
- Security
- Encryption
- No direct access to STN via telnet (Port 23) required
- No additional software / hardware needed
- No IT support needed
- This solution can be used to replace X.25 type connections
More Details, incl. requirements, instructions, and troubleshooting are
available at
http://www.stn-international.de/stninterfaces/secure/express/SSLVPN.html

records that contain property data
- Improved post-processing, including the ability to merge patent families
into a single cell in a table
Version 8.0 is available to current Analysis Edition (Version 7.0 and 7.01) customers for a small upgrade fee.
New Analysis Edition customers will need to purchase a new Single-User or Shared-Use License for STN Express with Discover! Pricing details are available at: http://www.stn-international.de/stninterfaces/stnexpress/orderexp.html
