Change between STN Express and STN on the Web after "Log off hold"

You can only continue a session using the interface with which it was started (STN Express, STN on the Web, STN Easy). This means it is not possible to change, for example,  from STN Express to STN on the Web or vice versa after a “Log off hold”.

Is STN on the Web another "easy to use" web service?

STN on the Web was designed primarily for information professionals and advanced end-user searchers who are experienced with search commands. Although STN on the Web offers some search assistance features, it is not a simplified web service.

How does STN on the Web differ from STN Easy?

STN on the Web offers full access to traditional STN, including structure building and searching via the web browser and is designed for information professionals. STN Easy is a web browser service that offers easy access to key features and 80 databases on STN. It was designed for the infrequent searcher who has occasional or relatively simple needs for scientific and technical information.

How does STN on the Web differ from STN Express with Discover?

STN on the Web offers full access to traditional STN, but via a web browser that supports a variety of "assistants", hyperlinks, and other new tools. STN Express is a PC/Macintosh software application.

Is STN on the Web supported by all web browsers?

STN on the Web works with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 or Mozilla Firefox 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 (Windows 2000, XP and Vista). JavaScript must be enabled. All basic STN functionality, including structure searching, is supported. Other web browsers or versions may offer satisfactory access to the service, but are not directly supported.

Does structure searching on STN on the Web require STN Express with Discover?

No. You simply download and install a FREE browser plug-in one time. Then, using the Structure Query tool, draw your chemical structure, upload the query, and search it.

Do existing STN accounts have access to STN on the Web?

Yes, current STN users automatically have access to STN on the Web.

Do STN Easy "only" accounts have access to STN on the Web?

STN Easy "only" accounts (account number is totally numeric) do not currently have access to STN and so do not have access to STN on the Web. If you have an STN Easy "only" account, you may choose to upgrade to an STN account by contacting your STN Service Center. This may require payment of an account setup fee. Does STN on the Web directly offer new STN account registration?

All standard and academic STN accounts were automatically activated for STN on the Web as of June 6, 1999. New STN account registration on the Web is not directly offered for STN on the Web. Customers in Europe should go through the Account Set Up procedure from FIZ-Karlsruhe.

Are STN on the Web accounts payable by credit card?

No.

Are academic discounts available for STN on the Web?

The standard STN academic programs are available through STN on the Web just like STN Easy and traditional STN.
