Patent Forum Fall 2007
- What's New on STN?

Keep your searching skills and patent database knowledge up-to-date. This session will focus on recent STN Express 8.2, STN AnaVist 2.0 and STN Viewer developments, plus the latest news on STN patent databases, including CAplus, Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI), INPADOCDB and USGENE. - Introducing STN Viewer: A Feature to Enhance Full-Text Patent Evaluation and Navigation

In this session, we will provide a first look at what will become an essential tool for patent information professionals. We will demonstrate how new STN Viewer features will allow patent information professionals to more quickly navigate and evaluate the full-text of patent publications. - The Art of ECLA

Patent searchers need as many tools as possible to perform the most cost-effective, comprehensive and relevant searches. The addition of European Classification (ECLA) to INPADOCDB, CAplus and RDISCLOSURE allows for more effective cross-file searching. With Approximately twice as many classes as the Advanced International Patent Classification (IPC) system, ECLA also enhances search specificity. - Exploring Derwent World Patents Index in STN AnaVist, Version 2.0

The addition of the Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI) to STN AnaVist is one of the major enhancements available in Version 2.0. In this session, we will demonstrate how to:- Create an analysis and visualisation project that includes records from WPINDEX/WPIDS/WPIX
- Customize visualizations with optional data fields for clustering, including Title/Abstract, Exemplary/First Claim and International Patent Classification (IPC) Codes
- Manage documents using custom labels
- Use comparison highlighting in the Research Landscape
- Display DWPI-specific charts for DWPI Classification (DC) and Manual Codes (MC)
Designed for new and existing users, this session will demonstrate how new features in Version 2.0, and the addition of DWPI, make STN AnaVist an even more valuable resource for effective decision making.
- STN: Searching for Patent Prior Art Evidence of Obviousness

Prior art searching to assess the patentability of a pending application or the validity of a granted patent involves identifying publications useful in the legal determination of whether an invention is obvious or lacks an inventive step. In this session we will focus on STN search strategies, tools and techniques to identify prior art that indicates whether an invention described in a patent claim is obvious or lacks an inventive step.
