General Information

FIZ Karlsruhe has installed an SSL VPN solution which enables STN customers to establish a secure and encrypted connection to STN using STN Express with Discover!. This solution is based on a dedicated SSL VPN server at FIZ Karlsruhe which uses an HTTPS tunnel with SSL encryption.

• No direct access to STN via telnet (Port 23) required
• No additional software needed in order to benefit from FIZ Karlsruhe´s SSL VPN solution
• This solution can be used to replace X.25 type connections

You only have to take a few precautions so that a JAVA SecureApplet can be loaded on your PC each time before you connect to STN. This SecureApplet uses SSL functionality and therefore guarantees a secure and encrypted communication with FIZ Karlsruhe during the active STN session.
