New Indian Patent Numbering Format available on STN

The Indian Patent Office introduced a new patent numbering format for applications filed from January 2016 onwards. On STN, Indian patent publications with the new numbering format are now covered in the regular updates of Derwent World Patents Index, CAplus and the patent full-text database INFULL.

The new numbering system makes use of two digits to indicate the type of application (T) as well as the regional offices in India (J). The old regional office codes have been replaced by a digit ranging from 1 to 4, corresponding to the four regional patent offices in India.

The STN numbering format is consistent with the original format a total of 12 digits. Patent publications in the new numbering format have kind code A assigned:
