Data Quality Improved in CNFULL and FRFULL

01. February 2017

The quality of the full text included in the STN databases CNFULL (Chinese Patents Full-Text Database) and FRFULL (French Patents Full-Text Database) has been enhanced by their producers.

In CNFULL, enhanced machine translation software has been used to improve the quality of Chinese to English translations in the Title, Abstracts, Claims and Description fields.  In Chinese Unexamined Patent Applications (CNA), machine translate abstracts have been replaced by human translation from SIPO, about three months after the initial publication. Since August 2015 machine translated abstracts in Chinese Examined Applications (CNB) and Granted Utility Model Patents (CNU) remain unchanged.

CNFULL covers the full-text of patent applications, granted patents and utility models published in the People's Republic of China since 1985. More than 12 million family records with more than 14.4 million publications are available.

The producer of the FRFULL database has rescanned all full text documents using enhanced optical character recognition (OCR) technology to improve the quality of the claims and description data.

FRFULL covers the full-text of patent applications, granted patents and utility models published in France. The oldest document in the database is from 1855, comprehensive coverage begins with 1902. More than 2.40 million family records with more than 3.14 million publications are available.
