STN Global Value Pricing Agreement Supports the Swedish Patent and Registration Office in Providing High-Quality and Efficient Examination

22. September 2014

The Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV) recently became the first patent authority worldwide to sign an STN Global Value Pricing agreement, providing their examiners with extended patent information and unlimited access to the unique content, powerful tools, and reliable support that have been the hallmark of STN InternationalSM for more than 30 years.

Columbus, Ohio / Karlsruhe / Stockholm, September 2014 – The Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV) and STN InternationalSM, the leading platform for searching research and patent information, have signed a Global Value Pricing agreement providing PRV examiners unlimited access to the high-quality patent, non-patent and substance content unique to STN. Key databases available through STN include authoritative chemistry content from CAS, patent content from FIZ Karlsruhe and Thomson Reuters as well as a wide variety of patent and non-patent resources from prestigious providers that cover the broad spectrum of science and technology. Approximately 95% of the world’s patent applications are reviewed by patent offices that use STN.

The Global Value Pricing agreement also provides PRV access to the new web-based STN search platform that offers a project-oriented workflow and intuitive interface designed to align with the needs of patent examiners and IP professionals. New STN leverages cutting-edge technology to deliver enhanced search power and advanced tools to support searching the growing global volume of published information.

“STN Global Value Pricing incorporates customer feedback and recent market trends to empower users to maximize the value STN can create for their entire organization,” says Dr. Rainer Stuike-Prill, Vice President Marketing & Sales at FIZ Karlsruhe. “Having unlimited access to STN in an intuitive interface allows patent examiners to focus on efficiently finding all relevant publications rather than worrying about costs, optimizing the quality and speed of examination.”

Global Value Pricing standardly includes the complete collection of high-quality STN content and all interfaces and features under a single flat-fee contract, rather than requiring customers to select and pay for individual content entitlements. This provides enhanced budget predictability and simplifies administration.

“PRV strives to be among the top authorities within our area regarding short delivery times and high processing and examination quality. STN helps us to accomplish this by their modern and efficient platform for retrieving updated information from relevant databases,” comments Johan Winther, Head of Patent Information at PRV. “Our patent examiners highly appreciate the new STN platform since searches now can be done without limitation of possible hits. Unlimited access under Global Value Pricing will simplify administration and ensure that we can make the best use of this valuable resource.”

The choice made by PRV to provide unlimited STN access to their examiners, allowing them freedom to fully utilize its high-quality content and tools to optimize their work, reflects their strong commitment to quality. PRV is one of the few intellectual property offices globally to achieve ISO 9001 quality certification of its entire operation demonstrating this outstanding commitment.
