The USPATFULL file contains full text and the current classifications for the original publication of patents issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office from 1975 to the present, with partial coverage of selected technologies from 1971-1974, and defensive publications from 1976 to the present.  Coverage of USPATFULL includes all granted utility patents, defensive publications, design patents, reissue patents, statutory invention registrations, and plant patents. Complete page images are available from 2000. Complete Chemical Abstracts indexing for one equivalent U.S. chemical patent is included in a record. A thesaurus is available for the USPTO Manual of Classifications in the /NCL, /INCL, and /RPCL fields. This thesaurus includes catchword terms from the USPTO/MOC subject headings and subheadings. A thesaurus is available for the WIPO International Patent Classifications (IPC) in the /IC field.

A companion USPAT2 file contains full-text records for the latest publications, since 2001, on inventions for which the original publications are available in USPATFULL. 

Complete Chemical Abstracts indexing for one equivalent U.S. chemical patent may also be included in a USPATFULL record. The file also includes a thesaurus for the USPTO Manual of Classifications and for the current edition (8th) as well as the other editions (1-7) of the WIPO manual of the International Patent Classification (IPC) codes. For publications issued since 1999, the complete document, including graphics such as tables, diagrams, or structures can be displayed and captured online in page image format. These images are TIFF images. Any program that handles TIFF images compressed in Group 4 fax format, e.g., STN Express, may be used to capture images from DISPLAY. Images can be displayed directly on the screen when accessing the file via STN on the Web.

A thesaurus is present for the /IC, /ICM, /ICS, /IPC, (and /IPC1-/-/IPC8), /NCLS, and /RPCL search fields in the USPATFULL File.
