How can I find recent publications on the
PCR analysis (Polymerase Chain Reaction) of genetically modified soya? |
| Strategy: |
Start with a broad topic search in the "food"
category by using key words and then narrow the search with the STN
Easy Refine option. |

If you do not have an existing STN account:
To open a new STN Easy account, click the blue "Open New Account" button on the STN Easy Home Page and complete and submit the online forms. Within 30 minutes, your STN login ID and password will be sent to the e-mail address you specify. |
If you have an existing STN account:
To log on to STN Easy, simply enter your login ID and password.
Then click "Start Your Session." |

| Select Search Mode: |

| The Search Page is displayed. It offers four different
search options: "Easy",
"Advanced",
"CAS
Number" and "Patent
Lookup" Search. The "Defined
Searches" link is available in case Defined
Searches have been created. |
| To locate papers on specific technology topics
using more than 1 search term in the search strategy, select
the "Advanced Search" tab. |
| The Advanced Search option prompts you to choose
the category of databases you wish to search. Click the "Select
Your Category" button for the list of categories. |

| Select Databases: |

 |
|
| An additional browser window is opened. It displays the list of STN Easy database categories. |
Select the "Food" category and click the
 Database
Folder icon to see the list of databases included in
this category. |
| You may de-select the FOMAD database. It provides
detailed analyses of international food and drink markets thus
it is not relevant when searching for an analytical or technological
subject. Then click "OK". |
The window closes and the name of the category is displayed next to the
"Select Your Category" button. - You are ready to enter the search terms. |

| Enter Search Terms: |

|
| Pick the search-field "Word(s)" from the first drop-down box and enter the key word PCR in the appropriate search box. |
| Click the grey "Browse Index" button on the right to confirm that the search term you entered is both spelled correctly and included in the database cluster you have chosen. Browse Index is free and an excellent way to preview your search before you actually pay for it ! |

| Click the green "Search" button. - Please note: The price for the search fee is displayed below the Search button. |

| 1. Answer Page: |

|
| The list of answers is displayed in a table format
on the Answer Page. Your search question and total number of
answers is shown at the top of Answer Page as well. |
| More than 700 records on PCR are located in the
three STN Easy databases! |
| To narrow the search to only those articles concerning
soya and soya-products, click the blue "Refine Your Search"
button. - There is no additional charge to refine your STN Easy
search! |
| Helpful HINT: The "Save" option at the
top of Answer Page would allow you to save your search terms
for Recall
and/or your search query as Defined
Search. |

| The Refine Page is displayed. |
| Pick the search-field "Word(s)" again and enter soy*. - The wildcard character * ensures the search for words with a variety of endings. You may type either * or ? at the end of a word to append zero or more characters. |

| A precise set of research information is located. |
| Review the answer titles, and click directly on a title of interest. - The display costs are shown to the right of the answer. |
Helpful HINTs: You may also change the "Display Format" and "Display Style" using the selection-boxes at the bottom of the title list.
In order to view records for several answers at once, simply check the boxes next to the appropriate answers and click the "Display Answers" button at the bottom of the page. |

| Immediately, the detailed record for the publication is displayed - right at your desktop. |
| Furthermore, you are free to choose between various
options available at Display Page such as full-text order, citation-searching,
searching the web, etc. |

| In order to start a new search, simply click the appropriate search option below the STN Easy Logo on the blue Navigation Frame and a new Search Page is displayed. |
