Patent information from East Asia on STN
PDF! PDF available!

A company who is filing patent applications worldwide cannot ignore patent literature from East Asia. More than half the patent applications filed worldwide every year are written in Japanese, Chinese or Korean. STN International has made many patent information from China, Korea and India available in English language, especially new Chinese utilities. An overview together with database specific features will be given of CAPLUS, WPINDEX, INPADOCDB, JAPIO and KOREAPAT.

Navigating INPAFAMDB - easy recipes to get relevant results

INPAFAMDB – the International Patent Family Database – is a bibliographic patent family database, covering the full spectrum of patent technologies for 81 issuing authorities, dating from the early 1800s. The database features a one-record-per-patent-family design to provide maximum multi-file prior-art synergy with CAPLUSSM and the Derwent World Patents Index® (DWPISM) on STN®. This e-Seminar will be of value to novice, intermediate and expert STN patent searchers.

Synergies and Surprises - USGENE and DGENE Multifile Patent Sequence Searching on STN

The launch of The USPTO Genetic Sequence Database, USGENE, on STN by the SequenceBase Corporation and FIZ Karlsruhe in July 2007 provided a unique and powerful additional resource for STN patent sequence searchers. This talk will focus on the importance and practicalities of comprehensive multifile searching for U.S. patent sequence data using both USGENE and GENESEQ (DGENE) on STN.

Searching in DWPI Chemistry Resource (DCR)

Specific chemical compositions in Derwent World Patents Index documents are easily accessible via the structure searchable data base segment DWPI Chemistry Resource (DCR). In this presentation we will introduce the content of DCR and demonstrate the search capabilities with of a couple of examples. Manual and automatic monitoring of chemical compositions in patent publications will also be discussed.

Reaction Searching in Beilstein

BEILSTEIN is the world’s largest collection of organic reactions and chemical facts. The file structure differs from other STN chemical files. Thus it needs some experience to use all the advantages of the file.
This e-seminar will introduce the possibilities of reaction searching in BEILSTEIN. We will learn about the file structure and look at basic reaction searches as well as at some more advanced strategies.

The Art of ECLA

As patent searchers, we need as many tools in our arsenal as possible in order to perform the most cost-effective, comprehensive, and relevant search possible. Now that ECLA is available on STN in INPADOCDB, CAplus , and RDISCLOSURE, it has become a much more effective tool for cross-file searching. In addition, because it has approximately twice as many classifications as the Advanced IPC system, much more specific searches can be performed using this system. This session will include tips and techniques for using ECLA in combination with IPC and ICO codes to maximize the comprehensiveness of your retrieval, whether you are searching for known compounds used with a new delivery method, engineering devices or equipment, oil reforming/refining processes, or semiconductors.
