What's New in IP (manual and presentation
)
While it has been over a year since new US patent law regarding published
applications were implemented, new database content and search techniques
will be discussed to maximize the use of this information. Content and search
features of additional files including coverage of reaction chemistry in
the patent literature, enhanced indexing of US provisional application numbers,
enhanced FULLTEXT patent files and even Beilstein will also be discussed.
Case Study: Prior Art in Engineering (manual
and presentation
)
A wealth of unique engineering information is also available on STN. Content
and techniques for a comprehensive multifile search in this subject area
including STN system tools such as online thesauri, analysis techniques
to identify relevant search terms, and organizing results will be presented.
The techniques taught may apply to many other subject areas as well.
The World of Biosequences on STN (STN Express) (manual
and presentation
)
Certainly an area of extreme interest and importance to the IP professional
in today's R&D climate. On STN the most significant enhancement is most
likely the addition of BLAST similarity search capability in both the CAS
Registry File and Derwent DGENE file. Content and search techniques, including
the use of Search Assistants in STN on the Web and reporting results will
be explored.
Case Study: Prior Art in Markush Chemical Structures (manual
and presentation
)
Any structure based prior art search would be remiss in not searching for
the desired structures incorporated into a generically described Markush
structure claim, indexed in the MARPAT File. The challenges encompassing
searching a generic query against a generic answer will focus on just what
level of "match" is desired, and how to use MARPAT Match Level
and Element Count to accomplish this.
