CAS STNext® e-Seminar: Searching for incompletely defined substances

Authors can describe chemical substances without the necessary level of detail to make them unique. Without guessing the missing pieces, CAS creates another CAS Registry Number for incompletely defined substances. Some of these compounds are linked to hundreds or thousands of references, so would be a valuable addition to your search strategy that is seeking a comprehensive retrieval. This e-seminar will explain the four major types of incompletely defined substances, several examples and search strategies to retrieve them. When even further ambiguity is added the compound can be indexed as derivative of a partial structure, or even as a manual registration or using controlled Index Terms.
