Claim text has been added to CAplus, now allowing STNext users to search and display claims in both value-added databases CAplus and Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI) as well as in the full text databases. Claims in combination with value-added indexing and rewritten titles and abstracts of CAplus and DWPI (1) can be used to expand the recall of the search and (2) can be used to qualify that certain aspects are claimed. Thus, claims within DWPI and CAplus allow for leaner workflows.

In this e-seminar we provide a short summary on available claim text on STNext, followed by an example where we combine searching the value-added indexing with searching the claims in the different databases. The databases CAplus, DWPI and full text files come from different sources and thus have different translations and can have translations of different family members, which can be used for comprehensive retrieval. Thus, the e-seminar provides a good overview of the different sources for claim text on STNext, the different search fields and strategies how to search for information in these fields.
