Sources and Techniques for Searching Alloys on classic STN

This e-Seminar highlights the major sources of alloy information on STN and exemplify techniques to retrieve highly relevant results on classic STN.

For example, the material composition of an alloy, based on the weight percentages of its components, is captured during the intellectual indexing process of CAS. It is an easy and yet precise way to identify alloys. Furthermore, DWPI offers a set of its Manual Codes to search for classes of alloys. The specialized metal database METADEX contains an alloy index which as well allows for the highly specific retrieval of classes of metal compositions. In addition to this intellectual indexing, STN’s automatic numeric property search facilitates searching metal compositions in English language text fields of a variety of STN non-patent and patent databases.
